Unrealized profit/loss is a profit/loss from an investment that has not yet been sold or squared off. Unrealized gains would occur when the current price of a share is higher than the price the investor paid for it, while unrealized losses would occurs when the current price of a share is lower than the price the investor paid for. The gain/loss becomes realized once it is sold for cash.
To check your unrealized profit/loss, go to the investments tab under portfolio.
